I Wish You Were Beer

It is no secret that Jake loves his beer and subsequently, I have found a love for the beverage myself. So where do you take a devoted beer lover? Well, to Toronto’s Festival of Beer of course!

It was a Christmas gift we were both looking forward to, to say the least. Having never been to any beer festival, we had no idea what to expect, but I don’t think we could have ever imagined how fun it would be.

Held at the Bandshell Park by the Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, TFOB was just a short GO Train ride from Oshawa’s station for us. It was a hot, humid day and we were more than ready for a cold brew when we finally got through the gates.

The first thing that hits you when you get through is the music. All kinds of music blaring from all different locations that somehow blend together perfectly to create a summer track made to sip beer to. Next is the smells. Beer, food, grease. All the best makings of a festival.

There was no hesitation on our end, we took our commemorative cups and five tokens each included in our admission and started our sampling. It all started with a Watermelon Beer and ended up at Hard Root Beer Floats. We devoured roasted corn on the cob, hot dogs, mini doughnuts and just enjoyed the day.

The atmosphere was crazy at the festival, I have never seen so many people in one place laughing and enjoying each others company. Twisted Tea’s booth had beer pong volleyball, there was misting stations, picnic tables, bean bag tosses, Plinko, and live music. One of the coolest parts of the festival was near the end of the day when Big Sugar came on stage to perform. Jake and I had recently gone to a Big Sugar concert in Picton, so it was great hearing their music again in such a beautiful day.

All in all, I would definitely go to Toronto’s Festival of Beer again. I had a great time with a great guy, and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Now, I just can’t wait for Bay of Quinte’s beer festival, Quinte Craft in the fall. You could say this event has started a trend in events that Jake and I attend.
